Claude AI massively blocks accounts for VPN, account purchases and “gray” access schemes

Now in Russian-language chats, on Reddit (r/ClaudeAI, r/Anthropic) and in X (Twitter) hundreds of complaints: “I went through a VPN – account is blocked”, “I bought a ready-made Claude Pro for 500 rubles – every other day ban”, “I used OpenClaw – access was cut off forever”.

The automatic security system works rigidly, with no warnings and almost no appeals. Find out why this is happening and how to protect your account.

## Anthropic (Consumer Terms of Service + AUP, current February 2026)

• It is forbidden to share a login, password or OAuth token with anyone (including third-party tools).
• Non-human/automated access is prohibited except for the official API.
• Access is allowed only from supported countries (Russia is not on the list).
• It is forbidden to bypass geoblocks, create / buy accounts for "gray" use, use temporary numbers.
• Instant blocking without a refund.

VPN itself is not prohibited, but 90% of ban cases are associated with it.

## The main reasons for blocking + real examples

1. VPN and proxy Claude tracks:

• Sharp changes in IP (Moscow → New York in 5 minutes).
• Datacenter-IP cheap VPN (NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark in the “normal” mode are often caught).
• Access from unsupported regions (Russia, China, etc.).

Examples:

• Reddit (r/ClaudeAI, October 2025): A user from Russia used a VPN "for privacy" - ban after 3 days. Appeal dismissed.
• Reddit (February 2026): "Enabled a VPN on your phone, opened Claude Code - immediately "Your account has been disabled after an automatic review."".
• Many cases when a person paid Pro/Max from Russia through a VPN – after payment, the account was disabled for an hour.

2. Purchase of ready-made accounts and use of temporary numbers Buy on Telegram channels "Claude Pro 1 month for 400 rubles" - almost always ban in the first 1-7 days. Why:

• The account is already dirty (previously used).
• Registration via temp-mail + virtual number.
• Payment does not coincide with geolocation.

3. Third-party tools and automation (new wave February 2026) Anthropic specifically updated the rules:

• You can not use the OAuth token from Claude Pro/Max in OpenClaw, Clawdbot, OpenCode, Cline, Roo Code and any other “harness”.
• Even the official Claude Code sometimes catches if there have been previous breaches.

Example from X (January–February 2026):

• The developer connected OpenClaw to his Max account → ban + refund subscription.
• Anthropic officially confirmed, “We’re banning spoofing Claude Code.”.

4. Other triggers

• Multiple accounts from a single device/IP.
• Sharp jumps in tokens (Claude Code sometimes “burns” 100k+ tokens due to a bug – ban).
• Jailbreak-prompts and attempts to bypass guardrails.

## What should I do if I'm already banned?

1. Complete the official appeal form (in Claude → Help → Appeal settings).
2. It’s fair to say you used a VPN for privacy, but you won’t.
3. The chance of success is ~20-30%. If the ban for buying an account or a third-party tool is almost zero.

New accounts from the same device/browser/network are usually banned immediately.

## How to use Claude safely in Russia in 2026

• The most secure option: official subscription + resident proxy with fixed IP from supported countries (e.g. Kazakhstan, Armenia, Turkey).
• Never use a free/cheap VPN or datacenter proxy.
• Do not buy ready-made accounts.
• For automation – only official API (expensive, but legal and stable).
• One account – one person, one device, stable IP.
• Before paying Pro/Max, check that the VPN is turned off and the IP corresponds to the country of registration.

## Conclusion

Claude is a powerful tool, but Anthropic is now actively cleaning up the gray market. If you are a developer or company and use Claude every day, switch to legal schemes. A $20 Pro/Max ban can cost you weeks of work and nerves.

Take care of the accounts. It is better to pay a little more for stability than to start over every month.
